Information on a Lithuanian metal rings

In recent years aluminium and steel rings made by “ARANEA” (Poland) and by “I.Ö. Mekaniska AB“ (Sweden) have been used for bird ringing in Lithuania. The sizes, inscriptions and numbers of these rings are listed in the table.

1 a = aluminium rings, k – rivet rings, o = oval shape rings, p = steel rings, s = rings with a lock, A = rings for Swans, a number is repeated twice (horizontal & vertical), C = rings for Storks, a number is repeated three time (twice horizontal & vertical), J = colored (blue over red) rings for White-tailed Eagles nestlings, always on the right tarsus.

2 # = letter (on occasions when more than one letter has been used in the number of these rings), 0 = any digit (0 to 9).

Earlier other rings were also used in Lithuania. The inscription on all these rings includes the word LITHUANIE, LITUANIA or LITHUANIA. The numbers of these rings are as follows: 0000, 00000, 000000, R0000, RR0000, R000000, 00R00 (0 = digit 0 to 9, R = letter). Birds ringed with these rings are still found.
